Dabigatran Etexilate Polysan 110® (capsules).
This is a low-molecular, pharmacologically inactive precursor of the active form of dabigatran. It is a direct oral anticoagulant and a direct thrombin inhibitor. After oral administration, dabigatran etexilate is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and then converted to dabigatran through physiological reactions in liver and plasma.
Dabigatran is a potent, competitive, reversible direct inhibitor (a substance that inhibits the activity of thrombin) and the main active substance in plasma. Since thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin during coagulation (Latin: coagulatio "coagulation, thickening, aggregation"), inhibiting thrombin activity prevents clot formation.
